Chickasaw State Park


 

Chickasaw State Park is located about seven miles west of Henderson, Tennessee, on State Highway 100. The park was built in 1934 and contains 14,384 acres. Recreation is the focus of 1,280 acres. It was named for the Chickasaw Indians who lived in the area. Facilities include two lakes for swimming, fishing and boating, picnic areas, cabins, group and recreational lodges, tent camping areas and nature trails.

Freed-Hardeman University

 

Freed-Hardeman University was founded by A.G. Freed and N.B. Hardeman in 1908 under the name of National Teachers' Normal and Business College.  The name was changed to Freed-Hardeman College in 1919.  Freed-Hardeman remained a junior college until 1974-1975 when the junior year was added.  The following year the senior year was added, and in the spring of 1976, the college conferred the Bachelor's Degree.  From 1919 until the early 1930s, grades one through twelve were also taught at the college.  Freed-Hardeman is an endowed, independent, non-profit institution.
