Dear Parent or Guardian:
For some time now, there has been concern about the bad language that junior high students use. For the major occurrences, in-school suspension has been used as a punishment. There have been verbal warnings for lesser violations. In many cases, minor words have escalated into major outbursts. In an effort to enforce a more consistent disciplinary policy, ALL such infractions will result in in-school suspension. These infractions include cursing, vulgar gestures, racial slurs, or other actions that disrupt school systems operations. This policy will be in force starting February 13, 2006.
Another area of concern is the school’s dress code. Most students comply with the dress code. There are, however, some who persist in wearing items of clothing that are not acceptable. We have tried to be reasonable, but the dress code will have to be enforced. A Dress Code Guide has been printed on the back of this letter. An addition to the items on that list: No pajamas or sleepwear, including house slippers or bath slippers. Infractions of the dress code will result in a warning and a clothes change for the first offense (we will supply the clothes), and in-school suspension for additional offenses. These changes will also begin on February 13, 2006.
These items are being reinforced in an effort to create a better atmosphere for teaching and learning. Thank you as parents and guardians for helping us to achieve these goals.
Respectfully yours,
Ken West
Principal
