A Message From Our Director:

It seems that we’re constantly hearing “low fat this”, “no sugar that”, “exercise more”, etc and etc.  The big companies are making adjustments, the states are creating new laws, and now our counties are following suit.  Here’s why:

43% of all TN students are at risk for being overweight or obese (pilot site data)

82% of all TN high school students reported they did not eat 5 or more fruits or vegetables per day (2005 YRBS)

TN ranks 48th among states for overall health and received an “F” on the State Efforts to Control Childhood Obesity Report Card

Chester County’s Diabetes mortality rate is 47.79% as compared to the state rate of 31.27%.

We realize that all children are not overweight, are not obese, and are not at risk.  Students who are healthy and active have missed less school, scored better on tests, and maintained healthy socialization skills. It certainly can’t hurt for all of our students to participate in healthy eating and activities. For this reason, coordinated school health programs are available through our school system to all students, families, faculty and staff.

If you would like to know more about our activities or have questions about any of our programs, please contact us!

We hope you can take some time to check out the resources!
